This functionalist tubular steel chair, designed in the 1930s by Czechoslovak avant-garde architect and designer Ladislav Žák, was produced by the tubular steel furniture manufacturer SAB.
Žák, a leading figure of Czechoslovak modernism, studied architecture under Josef Gočár. He gained recognition for his purist yet poetically inclined furniture and interior designs, blending streamline with aeronautical elements. Žák also designed notable modern buildings, including the villa of actress Lída Baarová in the Baba Werkbund Estate in Prague, the Herainova Villa in Prague-Dejvice, and the villas of M. Frič and M. Hajna.
