The offered tubular steel chair by architect František Berger is one of the most significant functionalist furniture designs of Czechoslovak modernism from the 1930s.

It was manufactured by Hynek Gottwald, a renowned furniture company that produced a series of avant-garde designs by Czechoslovak architects in the 1930s.

The chair is still in its original condition, featuring a bright red iron yarn upholstery and matching painted armrests.

Its unique design and construction vividly embody the spirit of pre-war Czechoslovak design. A version of this chair without armrests graces the cover of the exhibition catalog “Hej Rup! Let’s Go! The Czechoslovak Avant-Garde in the Context of European Modernism” from the Bröhan Museum in Berlin.

There is currently no comparable piece available in the international art market.
