This remarkable stool is based on a design by Marcel Breuer and was produced in the 1930s by the Prague-based company SAB.

In addition to its own modernist designs, SAB began manufacturing furniture in the early 1930s based on the work of German architects and designers from the Bauhaus environment. After the Second World War, the company was nationalized in Czechoslovakia – a turning point that ended its independent design culture of the pre-war period.

The stool is in excellent condition and combines the clear, functional language of Bauhaus Modernism with an original fabric cover in warm tones. Its reduced construction of chromed tubular steel deliberately avoids unnecessary ornamentation. Together with the colorful fabric, the stool represents a typical example of “Neues Wohnen” of the 1930s. A characteristic piece of modern living from that era.
