This rare desk was manufactured in the 1950s by Mauser Werke in Waldeck, Germany. It is based on the B 65 model, originally designed by Marcel Breuer in the late 1920s for Thonet. This later version reflects the principles of Bauhaus design translated into the industrial aesthetics of the post-war period.
Known for its high-quality steel furniture, Mauser developed several adaptations of early modernist designs during the 1950s. The construction combines chrome-plated tubular steel, a black lacquered steel body, and a linoleum top – materials typical for the era.
With a fixed container on the left and a floating drawer on the right, the layout reflects Breuer’s functional approach. The clear geometry and balanced proportions make this piece an outstanding example of postwar Bauhaus-inspired modernism.
