This rare avant-garde lamp was crafted by Josef Vorel in Prague during the 1930s. Vorel was among the leading metalwork designers of Czechoslovak functionalism, creating lighting that embodied a synthesis of technical clarity and avant-garde aesthetics. The chandelier is crafted from nickel-plated brass and features two half-spherical opal glass shades. The restrained geometry and balanced composition reflect the principles of functionalist design, while the opal glass diffuses a soft, even light that contrasts beautifully with the cool metallic surfaces. The electrical system has been professionally restored and renewed. This lamp represents the achievements of the Czechoslovak design avant-garde of the 1930s and stands as an important collector’s piece. It demonstrates how Josef Vorel translated the principles of functionalism into a lighting object that radiates both technical precision and poetic presence.
