This original glass cabinet from the early 1930s is a convincing example of Bauhaus Modernism, defined by clarity, functionality, and architectural restraint. The design was created by John Hagemann and produced by Thonet-Mundus, one of the key manufacturers of tubular steel furniture during this period.
The cabinet is constructed around a tubular steel frame, combined with stained veneered plywood panels and generous glass surfaces. Sliding glass doors emphasize transparency and ease of use, while the interior shelving allows for a structured and flexible presentation of books or objects. The reduced material palette and clearly defined proportions reflect the Bauhaus principle of functional design without ornament.
With its substantial width and architectural presence, the cabinet works equally well as a library cabinet or as a display piece. Preserved in original condition, it represents an authentic document of early 1930s Bauhaus design.
