This extraordinary sofa  in Bauhaus tradition, likely designed by Hanna Zaveska-Kucerova and produced by the renowned Czechoslovakian tubular steel manufacturer Hynek Gottwald, combines functionalist design with Art Deco elements. In our view, the magnificent design is on par with the daybed designs of Eileen Gray, a well-known classic.

The piece has been expertly restored according to our specifications. The wooden elements have been finished with a high-gloss black lacquer, and all upholstery has been renewed to our specifications. The chosen Art Deco fabric, with its typical 1930s texture, reflects the spirit of that era.

Some pieces from Gottwald’s workshop were recently featured in the Bröhan Museum in Berlin as part of the exhibition “HEJ RUP! DIE TSCHECHISCHE AVANTGARDE IM KONTEXT DER EUROPÄISCHEN MODERNE”.  This couch, which combines functionality and aesthetics, is a perfect example of the innovative spirit of that time. It is ideally suited as a sofa or daybed and brings timeless style to any space.
