This U453 sideboard was produced in Czechoslovakia during the 1960s after a design by Jiří Jiroutek for Interiér Praha.
Jiroutek is regarded as one of the leading figures of post-war Czech furniture design. His work became closely associated with the so-called Brussels Style, which emerged after Expo 58 and introduced softer forms, balanced proportions and modern materials into Czechoslovak design.
While many pieces from the U-450 series feature colourful sliding doors, this sideboard relies entirely on material, rhythm and proportion. The delicate horizontal arrangement of its ten drawers creates a quiet precision that recalls Japanese furniture design.
The piece has been professionally restored and is presented in excellent condition with beautifully lacquered and polished oak surfaces.
