JST 22 Bauhaus ceiling light by Adolf Meier for Zeiss Ikon – 1930s

This large JST 22 stepped reflector pendant light by Zeiss Ikon was designed by Adolf Meyer in the late 1920s. Meyer worked for Zeiss Ikon AG from 1926 to 1929, developing innovative lighting designs that combined technical precision with the clear formal language of Bauhaus Modernism.

The lamp features an elaborate three-part glass construction. Its removable, silver-backed stepped reflector directs and distributes the light, while the opal glass body below provides soft and even illumination. A matt glass diffuser at the bottom completes the construction and reduces glare.

Its precise geometry, visible construction and balanced proportions make the JST 22 a particularly impressive example of modern lighting design from the late 1920s.
