This refined set of three nesting tables was designed by Jindřich Halabala for UP Brno in the 1930s. Halabala, chief designer at the Brno-based furniture manufacturer UP Závody, created an extensive portfolio of works combining the principles of Bauhaus Modernism with the craftsmanship and formal clarity of Czechoslovak Modernism.
The set consists of three graduated tables that can be used individually as side tables or nested together to form a compact console. The clean, rectilinear structure in lightly stained solid wood gives the design a warm, natural presence, while the tabletops present a distinctive three-tone lacquered finish – a vibrant colour composition typical of the era, offering a lively counterpoint to the geometric form.
The use of these durable, colour-coated surfaces recalls the innovative material treatments of the interwar period, enhancing both aesthetic appeal and practicality. Balanced proportions and understated elegance make this set equally suited for functional use or decorative display.
An authentic piece of modernist furniture that appeals to both collectors and admirers of timeless design.
