This set of three ST23R cantilever chairs was produced by the German manufacturer Mauser during the 1950s. The underlying design dates back to 1939 and, with its chromed tubular steel construction and finely woven cane, remains firmly rooted in the tradition of pre-war Bauhaus Modernism.

The set consists of two side chairs and one matching armchair. The combination of chromed tubular steel, black lacquered wooden frames and cane gives the chairs their restrained elegance.

With the ST23R, Mauser carried the design principles of pre-war Modernism into the 1950s. In connection with this design, the company referred for many years to earlier developments by the Cologne locksmith Gerhard Stüttgen, repeatedly making them the basis of its own legal claims regarding design protection. The model therefore represents an interesting chapter in the history of the cantilever chair.

The set remains in overall good condition. The cane shows minor age-related losses, while the surfaces display the signs of use expected from furniture of this age.
