This elegant console was produced in the early 1930s by the Czechoslovak tubular steel furniture manufacturer Mücke-Melder. The company was among the most important European producers of functionalist and Bauhaus-related interiors and held licenses from Thonet-Mundus AG for the realization of designs associated with the Bauhaus environment. Alongside these licensed works, Mücke-Melder developed its own furniture editions by Czechoslovak designers, executed to a high standard of craftsmanship.
The design consistently follows Bauhaus principles of functional clarity and formal reduction. The chromed tubular steel frame gives the piece a sense of lightness and transparency, while the black-lacquered joinery panels create a strong visual contrast and emphasize the sober, modern character of the console.
A small drawer with a chromed cylindrical handle and an additional lower shelf add practical functionality to the restrained construction. The console is versatile in use and can serve as a console table, side table, bedside table, or compact storage piece.
The piece is preserved in its original condition. The surfaces show a naturally matured patina that underlines its historical character. All components are solid and well preserved, reflecting the high production quality typical of Mücke-Melder furniture.
