The model 1515 armchair by Oswald Haerdtl combines an organically shaped backrest with sculptural armrests. Its bent and shaped wood carries Thonet’s long bentwood tradition forward through Haerdtl’s modern, sculptural design language.
The model was also manufactured in the Czechoslovak Thonet factories. Production continued after the factories were nationalised and renamed TON. Comparable examples are documented with both Thonet and later TON markings.
The Austrian architect and designer Oswald Haerdtl (1899–1959) is an important figure in Viennese modernism and Austrian post-war modernism. His work encompasses architecture, interiors, furniture and everyday objects.
The chairs have been professionally restored in our workshop.
