This 4-door sideboard is based on a 1930s design by the Prague-based furniture manufacturer Rudolf Vichr. The company was known in the interwar period for its functional furniture in the style of Classical Modernism, including tubular steel pieces in the spirit of Bauhaus design.
The version shown here is a new edition, built closely following original references. It was realized in collaboration with a specialist workshop that has been dedicated to the restoration and reproduction of pre-war modernist furniture for more than two decades. The craftsmen involved are among the few still working with the materials and techniques of that era.
The veneered front panels display a vivid natural grain, subtly enhanced with hand-applied dark lines that introduce a graphic rhythm across the surface. Curved, high-gloss chrome-plated steel elements frame the body on both sides, creating a cool contrast to the warmth of the wood.
A defining detail is the pair of round metal handles, inspired by 1930s avant-garde designs and Japanese formal references. The corpus is enclosed by a slim black frame that visually anchors the piece and emphasizes its horizontal structure.
With generous storage and a strong architectural presence, this sideboard is suitable for both living and working environments. It combines design authenticity with contemporary manufacturing quality – and can be customized on request.
An identical version of this piece was used in the production of the television series Babylon Berlin in 2016.
