The Streamline armchair, model H269, was designed around 1933 by architect and furniture designer Jindřich Halabala and manufactured by UP Závody in Brno. Halabala was one of the leading figures of Czechoslovak modernism in the 1930s, and with this design, he combined functionalist clarity with the dynamic form language of Art Deco.
Characteristic for this model are the elegantly curved armrests made of bent, stained, and lacquered beechwood. The automobile-inspired silhouette reflects the spirit of international streamline modernism, while maintaining the structural solidity of Czech furniture tradition.
This example has been carefully refurbished using traditional upholstery techniques, including coil springs and horsehair. The fabric presents a refined brown tone with a subtle multicolored melange, adding visual depth and a vibrant surface texture that harmonises with the dark wood.
