This pair of cantilever chairs originates from an early 1930s serial production of the Thonet-Mundus group. The models B 43 (without armrests) and B 43 F (with armrests) are based on a 1927 design by Bauhaus architect Mart Stam.
The B-chair is regarded as the first rear-leg-free cantilever chair to be produced in series worldwide. Its structural concept represented a major technical breakthrough in furniture design and established the model as a key reference of German Bauhaus design, with lasting influence on modern seating.
The characteristic cantilevered frame made of bent, chrome-plated tubular steel provides a subtly resilient seating experience. The steam-bent beechwood seat and back panels in black lacquer form a clear contrast to the metal structure and emphasize the reduced, linear geometry of the design.
Both chairs display authentic age-related wear and a finely matured patina, preserving their historical presence. The B 43 F adds a closely related typological variation through the inclusion of side armrests.
Despite their refined and lightweight appearance, the chairs are structurally durable and well suited for long-term use as dining or work chairs.
Additional chairs of this type are available on request and may be used to extend the set.
