FN 21 Bauhaus tubular steel armchair by Mücke Melder – 1930s – leather, dark green

The Famos 21 cantilever armchair was designed by Mücke-Melder in Czechoslovakia during the 1930s. Developed as the company’s own model, it combined the structural lightness of a cantilever chair with generous and comfortable upholstery.

The sweeping chrome-plated tubular steel frame forms the runners, front legs and armrests as one continuous construction. Black-lacquered beechwood arm pads and deep dark green leather in classic British Racing Green create a calm contrast with the chrome.

The armchair was professionally restored around ten years ago. Its upholstery was rebuilt using traditional coil-spring construction and finished in high-quality leather with black stitching. It remains in very good, ready-to-use condition and offers an unusually high degree of comfort for tubular steel furniture of this period.

Mücke-Melder was one of Central Europe’s significant manufacturers of tubular steel furniture during the 1930s. Its production included furniture by German Bauhaus architects as well as the company’s own designs within Czechoslovak Functionalism.
