This tubular steel cantilever chair is the Famos 21 model by Mücke-Melder, made in Czechoslovakia in the 1930s. It was developed as the company’s own response to the introduction of the first cantilevered club chair, the K 411 by Thonet.
The chrome-plated frame shows an authentic, age-appropriate patina. The original beechwood armrests remain intact and offer a warm contrast to the clean lines of the construction.
The generous upholstery, built with traditional coil springs, provides a comfortable seating experience.
For this version, a consciously chosen light cream-colored plush fabric (Himalaya) was used. It softens the appearance of the chair and introduces a new kind of lightness – without forgetting the design’s historical roots.
The chair’s design presents itself as an independent interpretation of a well-known classic – calm, self-assured, and open to new contrasts.
