Famos 21 Bauhaus cantilever armchair by Mücke-Melder – 1930s – white

The Famos 21 cantilever armchair was designed by Mücke-Melder in Czechoslovakia during the 1930s. This in-house design was developed as the company’s own response to Thonet’s K 411, the first cantilevered club chair.

The chrome-plated tubular steel frame shows signs of age and use. The original beechwood armrests provide a warm contrast to the clean lines of the construction.

The armchair has been professionally restored and traditionally reupholstered with coil springs. The new cream-coloured Himalaya plush was deliberately chosen from a contemporary perspective. Its soft, almost cloud-like surface creates an engaging contrast with the functionalist tubular steel construction of the 1930s. The historical design remains clearly visible while gaining a surprisingly present-day character.
